Uhuru leads Raila in Ipsos poll
Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta’s popularity has overtaken that of Cord Alliance Raila Odibnga nine days to the Kenya general elections schedule for March 4.
Opinion poll results released today by Ipsos-Syovate shows that Uhuru Kenyatta popularity is at 44.8%, higher than that of his rival Raila Odinga’s 44.4%. It is the first time Uhuru Kenyatta has taken the lead in the polls.
The presidential race looks like it will be a two-horse race after Musalia Mudavadi was rated at 5.2%, Peter Kenneth 1.6%, Martha Karua 0.8%, Abduba Dida 0.2% and Prof James ole Kiyiapi at 0.1% .
The polls however shows that there is a likelihood of a runoff,none of the two leading contenders has managed the 50+1 votes.
In run off Raila will win the elections with 29%, Uhuru 12%, undecided 37% and others 21%.
Uhuru Kenyatta leads in 20 Counties while Raila leads in 19 with 4 battle ground counties and 4 contested counties.
At least 33% say the reason for supporting Uhuru Kenyatta is economic growth while 31% say the support Raila Odinga because of better governance.
The poll was conducted between 15th – 19th February 2013 with a sampling error: +-1.27% at 95% confidence level.
