Allegation of stealing after the gunmen who stormed the mall killing at least 67 people have been rife. But it has now emerged that KDF soldiers were in the forefront in the looting spree according to a report by  The Star newspaper which says it has seen the CCTV footage showing soldiers stealing.

CCTV footage indicates that some soldiers looting started after the army took over the Westgate operation from the police on Saturday night according to the paper.

Three soldiers are seen walking out of the Nakumatt supermarket with plastic shopping bags filled with cash.

With his back to the camera, one is seen at 9.12 pm on Saturday, September 21 emptying a cash register into a plastic Nakumatt bag while another soldier holds the bag open. The soldier then collects another cash register which he empties into the bag.

The faces of the two soldiers, bareheaded and not wearing their berets, are clearly visible in the CCTV footage. Those who have seen the footage says there was no gunfight between 7:30pm and 10:30pm on Saturday night.

Other video clips have shown bottles of beers scattered in a bar at the prestigious mall that was brought down by the army on Monday. It is not yet clear why the mall which was intact was felled raising concerns of a coverup.

“Let it be known to all Kenyans&international community that KDF operational training&doctrine do not condone any unprofessional misconduct. It is our desire to maintain our professional core values. All KDF personnel found culpable will be firmly dealt with according to the Law,” said KDF.

The rescue mission is yet to find any bodies of the five terrorist the army is said to have killed. The CCTV camera caught only four ‘scared and sweating’ gunmen in a corner of the mall.
